How this came about:
I was at the airport having a snack before seeing off a friend. A mother and son walked by and he asked he the exact words: "Momma, do you remember the white puppy we once had?" They were walking past and I never heard the answer. The phrase took hold of me. What could have happened to the white puppy? I wrote the song to answer the question.
Strange little thing about this song: it uses a version of the infamous "bluegrass run in G" but after going to G, it goes to E minor, which is an oddity. Bluegrass freaks may use this to further question my sanity, as if more evidence was needed.
I like the video I created. It reminds me a little of the early days of Picasso and Braque and their collages.
My momma she’s too busy
With every nickel and dime
To answer all my questions
She hasn’t got the time
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
Was that when you were married
And I still had a dad?
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
So many brothers and sisters
Momma loves us all
But I can’t bother her too much
For something that’s so small.
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
Was that when you were married
And I still had a dad?
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
But there is just one question
I would like to ask
If there’s a quiet moment
If that should come to pass
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
Was that when you were married
And I still had a dad?
Momma do you remember
The white puppy we once had?
