Sally

Sally

The song is based on the very odd notion of pining away about a sad love... that I never had. Did you ever feel nostalgic for that summer cabin that you never had?

I wanted to hear this sung by someone else, and by a better singer than me, so I found Gaston Loizeau on Airgigs, and then asked John Heinrich about playing flute on it. John said... clarinet, and so it is. Which then called for a clarinet in the visuals.

I had come into contact with a very talented illustrator named Edson da Conceição Silva who created all the custom illustrations that I used to animate the video.

I never had a girlfriend named Sally
I have a lot of leftover
Never used, tender things
That I never got to say.

Would Sally, would she ever go out with me?
And we would see a movie
Have some ice cream?
Sally… what do you say?

Would Sally maybe hold my hand,
Walk with me over by the shore,
Listen to that wacky old band
Playing that sweet old dixieland.

Hey Sally, I can’t help it
I love to make you smile,
I’ll make faces, I’ll even tickle you,
To ease your mind for a while.

Hey Sally today I’m sad,
Just heard an old friend has died
Can you sit with me today
Would you hate it if I cried?

Hey Sally today is Saturday,
Do you want to take a ride?
Out to the lighthouse on the point,
And sit there side by side?

But I’m afraid Sally would say,
We need to have us a talk,
By now she would be bored with me
And our time together is done.

I never had a girlfriend named Sally
I have a lot of leftover
Never used, tender things
That I never got to say.
